Our Story

Over the years, leading up to 2019, Daniel involved himself in deep life-transformation through relationships and self-realization experiences (he had lots of work to do). Valerie’s “life theme” was one of “unrequited love” and she chose to be single for decades, not finding the romantic love that she had been searching for.

Sanjali and Daniel met when Daniel attended his first Sedona kirtan with me (Larisa Stow) and my band, which Sanjali was promoting. They had a sweet connection based upon friendship. Shortly after their meeting, Valerie had a powerful dream. In the dream, she and Daniel were flying through the air on the back of his motorcycle (which he would later own), madly in love and extremely happy.  That dream, along with insights from intuitives and readers that Valerie had heard about her “guy” made her think ”Is this my man?”  But alas…life took them in different directions, Valerie chalked it up to one more unrequited love, mended her heart and they remained friends.

Life would detour their intimate connection for 7 years. During that time they had come to admire and respect one another greatly. Valerie had lost hope in finding love and had resigned herself to living a happy, yet solitary life. Daniel had told himself that, for the rest of his life he would be satisfied with being single, not yet knowing what he was missing.

Some time after Daniel’s transition out of his 5-year relationship, Valerie and Daniel decided to explore co-creating a sound-healing event together. They met, and their communication was filled with mutual admiration, joy, and laughter…the energetic connection was electric. They soon realized they were in love.

And yet, there was one more piece to work on….Daniel needed to release the resistance from his own mind that kept him from full and complete self-love and let Valerie completely into his heart and soul. While Valerie needed to trust that Daniel was true. Once they both surrendered, they allowed the current of this great love to take them.

A fun fact…they got together on October 19th, 2019.  They realized later that they had met on October 19th, 2012, 7 years earlier at my (Larisa Stow’s) concert! It is only fitting that I (Larisa Stow) marry them today.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my pet?

No. We have an older cat and dog and it usually causes too much chaos, having a new animal. There are also wild animals around the property, making it dangerous for a pet new to the area. Please consider our desire to maintain a peaceful and serene environment for humans. Please find a sitter for your pet, so they are not left in the car during your stay.

What are your business hours?

We don’t really have “business” hours, per se. Though, Daniel wakes up at around 5:30am and Valerie a few hours afterwards. You’ll need to call or email us to setup an appointment or registration in one of our retreats or workshops.

Where are you located?

We are 25-minutes southwest of Sedona, in the rural town of Cornville (with no corn). The altitude is at around 3300 feet and has about as many residents (3300). Pretty small town. We love it!

How can I prepare for a visit?

For those who would like to “go deeper” in their healing and self-realization, consider the following questions:

  1. What is missing in your life? Why?
  2. What traumas have you experienced?
  3. What physical issues have you been experiencing?
  4. What has kept you from complete joy in all areas of life? – we all have ways of justifying an imperfect life and have found ways to mask and cope and then believe that that way of being is normal.
  5. What has been your negative pattern(s)? “People disappoint me” or “I don’t take care of/love myself” or “I never feel supported”.
  6. From the world…What do you need? (love, honesty, trust, security, affection…etc.). Give 3 answers.

Do you do ayahuasca ceremonies?

No. At this time, we are not facilitating ayahuasca ceremony. Though, we will “call in” the spirit of Aya (The Mother Vine), during ceremonies. We have great respect for those that honor this “getting well” process and hope that you find the right place for you.

What about kids?

We plan a number of kid-friendly, Rites of Passage or Coming of Age ceremonies. Depending on the ,maturity, as early as 10 years old. Unless you are family, The Hummingbird House is not the place for your young ones to explore. There’s other place nearby that are much more fun!

Is a sweat lodge safe?

For over 20 years, the previous caretaker of our property, Artie Lookinghawk (Native American Pipe Carrier, Sweat Lodge Holder, and 16x Sun Dancer) held sweat lodge, ceremonies and rites of passage. With the help of friends, it took Artie years to build the sweat lodge and the 108 steps leading to it.

Artie has offered sweat lodge (“poured water”) as a place of sacred prayer, not as a life-threatening challenge to overcome. Originally, this is what Native American sweat lodge or kivas were used for…prayer, enhanced by the heat and wisdom of the Grandmothers and Grandfathers (stones).

Unfortunately, a tragedy which happened over 13 years ago, at another retreat center, by an irresponsible retreat facilitator, was involved in causing harm to others. All are invited to be decerning, use their own internal guidance system, and use caution and be safe.

Valerie and Daniel continue to learn from Artie Lookinghawk how to care for the property with respect and humility. Our “sweats” respect native traditions and values by not trying to be a “Native American Sweat Lodge”, but also honoring ourselves and our responsibility to look within through fire ceremony and introspection, becoming “a hollow bone” (self-clarity and humility). We have been honored and blessed by the spirits of this land to carry on, in our way, our healing ways and ceremonies. Obviously, we don’t take this responsibility lightly.
